Fishes

In the Ourthe river, live the pike, the barbel, the catfish and differents sorts of trouts. After the construction of many facilities as the installation of fish ladders and the removal of many obstacles, salmons have been seen recently in the Ourthe river.

The crayfishes are also present (5 species including one native specie !).

The beaver

The beaver can reach 80 cm to 120 cm of lenght. He has a black nose, 2 small eyes and 2 ears.

The beaver possesses a flat tail constituted of scales. His tail measures between 25 cm and 50 cm of lenght. The weight of the beaver is between 11 kg and 30 kg. His back legs are webbed but not his front legs; these allows him to gather twigs.

The beaver has a soft skin that protects him from cold water. His color is generally reddish brown or golden to dark-brown.

Beavers communicate with each other by slapping their tails on the water.

They have an excellent sense of hearing and sight. When they are swimming, they keep their ears and their eyes at the surface in order to be sure that there is no danger around them.

The beaver likes wood environments. Did you know you can detect the existence of beavers by observing the trees? Indeed, beavers gnaw trees in order to construct their dams but also to maintain the health of their teeths.
